Late Victorian Sapphire & Diamond Butterfly Brooch

Circa 1890's, in the style of a lepidoptery specimen, the darling butterfly is placed upon the Gold pin, her wings stretched to show the brilliance of the old Rose Cut Diamonds sparkling upon the wings and the beautiful blue Sapphire to the body. The sweet little bug is entirely fashioned by hand with great care (although not great observation as this specimen has only four legs rather than the usual six!), a very pretty companion to your most favourite outfits. Lepidoptery was a popular enthusiasm in the nineteenth century, inspired by the interest in Darwinian theory, and this little brooch reflects that interest.

The whole measures 5cm end to end and closes with a curled 'C' clasp complete with a clever push safety mechanism. The butterfly measures 2cm across wingtip to tip of the body.
