A sweet antique Victorian era Witches Heart brooch in 9ct Gold and set with a gorgeous cognac Citrine. The Gold is a beautiful slightly rosy hue which warms up the whole piece, adding to the romance of the meaning.

A witches heart is one where the tail or bottom part of the heart bends to one side and the design is seen as far back as the 15th Century and was regarded as a symbol to ward off evil spirits. The significance took a slight twist in meaning when it became associated with Scottish 'Luckenbooth' brooches which were considered as expressing love, friendship and good luck. In the 18th century the witches heart symbol had evolved to mean 'bewitched by love'.

It measures 3cm lengthwise and fastens with a safety clasp which we believe is a later addition.
