A preciously glistening antique statement brooch from two centuries past. Palest delicate lavender hued Amethyst and possibly a couple of Paste gems make up this impressive jewel which would once have danced on the bodice of a 19th century beauty. The Maltese cross was an emblem often worn at the time and gives this piece a superb 'historic' appearance. All mounted in the typical pinched setting of the time, the metal is high carat yellow gold and the Amethysts have a captivating translucency and sparkle.
The size and shape is good, making it a wonderful centrepiece to a collection of antique jewels. It measures 4.5cm each way and is of a substantial weight. There is a chip to one of the gems, which is barely noticeable (the bottom left oval in the main photograph).
